The Weavers
by Gerhart Hauptmann
Directed by Elaine Vaan Hogue
December 6 - 16, 2007

This powerful work follows the weavers of Silesia, a small republic in the South East of Old Germany, as they find themselves on the cusp of the Industrial Revolution. The hardships challenging this group of people reach a breaking point with the formation of a massive revolt against industrial progress. Protesting the mechanization of their trade, the weavers quickly learn the benefits of solidarity in the face of this crusade. Boasting over forty roles, a play of this proportion is not often presented so this production promises to be a special experience.
